Grand Hôpital Charleroi
An example of successful collaboration between Leviat and its client (De Nul, Franki) is the construction of the new hospital (le Grand Hôpital) in Charleroi.
The aim of the project is to combine 5 already existing hospitals into one large building. The 145,000-square-metre complex is being built on a former coal mine covering as much as 17 hectares and is located at the strategic intersection of 2 major traffic arteries in the east of Charleroi.
The new hospital with as many as 900 beds will become one of the largest hospitals in Belgium.
The estimated completion date of the project is in 2024.
The main solutions used in this project are:
Korbo (installed 11 km) – profile for façade masonry
The Korbo profile is designed to withstand façade masonry beside openings or overhangs, and to create a possibility of expansion wherever necessary. Korbo angle pieces with or without welded consoles can be visible or made invisible. Consoles allow for precise adjustment and mounting.
Special features:
Meets CSC MX3 requirement without being in stainless steel.
Thanks to the integration of PAS-ETS-Techno-coating (Galva + paint), all production was carried out in-house at Leviat.

Titan - Shear dowel for expansion joints
Titan studs for cutting loads are assembly elements for the construction. They are placed in a slab or shell beside the expansion joints. The studs for cutting loads can advantageously replace concrete consoles and better control the transmission of cutting loads. The Titan studs for cutting load are supplied as a complete system, special reinforcements included.
Speciale kenmerken:
Stainless steel dowel with a diameter of 40 mm to connect a walkway in height between 2 hospital blocks.
The dowels are 570 mm long, allowing the dowel to be anchored in concrete up to 6.5 times its diameter without reducing the load-bearing capacity per dowel.
